It’s rare but its happening, in the UK most of us are happily welcoming the soaring temperature however this has created a surge in demand for air conditioning as people struggle to keep their cool especially when driving. Halfords autocentres saw a massive surge in demand for air con services over the weekend with Sunday becoming the hottest day this year with temperatures as high as 29C, they saw a rise of 86% on the same period this time last year and a 159% increase on this time last week in demand. Learner Drivers On Motorways?

A main motoring body with a great deal of influence, the Institute of Advanced Motorists claims that we should be allowing learner drivers to drive on the motorway, because it’s safe. They believe that as long as its supervised it would help new motorists avoid some of the most common mistakes, its true in the fact that you are never taught to use a motorway when driving so most people pass and then learn from their mistakes which could be more dangerous than teaching those before they take their test. Australia and the United States already have a system in which their new drivers of the road can learn how to drive on a motorway before taking their test and if the UK decides to make the changes it will be more in line with how it’s done over the pond. The struggle with making it 74g/km is that as the threshold of the tax is 75g/km they will. need to make sure that the CO2 does not increase even marginally due to homologation. (more…)

Liquid Air, Car Fuel?

The Centre For Low Carbon Futures has established that liquid air could power cars in the near future, the concept of liquid air is that you cool down air until it becomes compact then you store it in an insulated object. The idea is when the air hits boiling point it expands forcing the air out thus creating thrust, the idea could also power ships, trains, lorries, motorbikes etc. They stress that this isn’t a concept for the distant future it is available now and in the past eighteen months there has been a small amount of demonstrations in the UK which have proved successful. First Load Of Bags Sent Off To St Gemmas

The guys in the office have been busy sorting through their unwanted things to fill up some charity bags for our chosen charity St Gemmas Hospice. We managed to fill a total of 12 bags which we are told on average are worth about £35 per bag to the charity. So the first £420 has been chalked off of the total for this year.

Tracie Harrison from St Gemmas popped in to collect the bags, we assumed she would turn up in a van but no, its was a blue Vauxhall Corsa, which we have now nicknamed the tardis due to its surprising loading capacity.

This is a great start and we are determined to hit our target this year, to keep up to date with how we are doing or to sponsor us, please visit our St Gemmas Page

Tyre Warning

TyreSafe, a company that advises on tyre safety as is implied in the name have issued advice to motorists in the UK in regards to tyre tread depth. They have said that due to the consistently wet summers in the UK it’s important to have the adequate tyre tread depth to be able to have good traction on the wet summer roads.
