Ban Door to Door School Runs Says Health Expert
Child obesity is a huge problem in the UK, everyone knows that and there is a lot being done to try tackle the issue so far with little success. Professor John Ashton, recently elected president of the UK’s Faculty of Public Health has called for parents to be banned from driving their children all the way to the front gates of the school as making them walk even a bit would help tackle the obesity issue. This doesn’t mean stopping parents dropping their kids off at school as many parents have too due to the distance it just means to avoid dropping them off right at the front entrance.
The Professor believe that as little as a quarter of a mile per day could make a huge difference if it was done on a large scale. It appears there is going to be a mixed reaction because some people will disagree that this should happen due to the hassle it will create and how impractical it will be, which is exactly why we are in this situation, practicality. The UK’s Faculty of public health is an ever growing establishment that was brought together in the early 70s that partners major establishments such as The UK Departments of Health, The Academy of Medical Royal College and the European Public Health Alliance.
Should cars be banned from school gates? This is a risky suggestion from the Professor but never the less he has yet reminded us of the issue on child obesity and it’s just another solution of how to tackle the problem. If having to be a bit impractical every morning made children fit and healthy I don’t see the big issue, but I’m positive many people will have a different opinion.
