Big Change To The Traditional Steering Wheel
Is there set to be a big change to the traditional steering wheel? Inventor Rene Guerster believes he may have developed something that could be seen in cars of the future. The idea is a new steering wheel system that prevents drivers from having to make unsafe hand over hand movements when they are turning the classic steering wheel. He claims that the main fault with modern cars is that it can take up to two and a half turns in order to steer the wheel which inevitably leads to move collisions, roll overs and related accidents as drivers will often panic and oversteer.
The highly anticipated invention is set to be revealed by Mr Guerster himself at the HFES 2013 meet which is located at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel in the United States of America on October 4th. He also claims that not much work was needed, everything was already there for him as the technology at the heart of some engine controls already allows motorists to steer without the one hand over the other issue but it just needs to be developed.
Any invention that makes the road a safer place is welcomed by everyone and this invention if it is as good as it’s built up to be. The concept is that the wheel only needs to make a quarter turn in order to make a full turn, basically a more sensitive steering wheel. The speed of the steering wheel turn and the degree also is a factor in how much the car turns as it will all be calculated in somewhat of a formula, of course since its heavily relying on technology it will have to undergo several tests to make sure it is practical and safe but it’s believed that this could be incorporated in modern vehicles rather quickly and the transition will be smooth.
Since back in 1894 the steering wheel has only seen slight development and this is set to be one of the largest changes in its history, a modern steering wheel. This invention could save several lives if Rene Guerster is successful in getting this rolled out to modern vehicles, we’ll find out relatively soon by the sounds of it.
