How To Get To Madrid For The Champions League Final

How to get to Madrid for the Champions League Final

Extortionate Prices For Flights To Madrid

With Tottenham and Liverpool both getting to the champions league final, thousands of fans from the UK are all trying to get to Madrid to see this all English final. One big problem many people have encountered is the price of flights to Madrid, costing over £1000. Frankly, this is unfair, and people should have a chance to see their football team play in such a prestigious event without spending so much. As a result of this we decided to conduct some research of alternative ways to get to the game without burning a hole in your pocket.

Drive From The UK To Madrid!

The first way is that you can drive all the way to Madrid! Yes, people are actually doing this and apart from the monstrous journey this might not be a bad idea. If we use an example of 63mpg, for your car to get there and back would cost, about £140 in petrol. That is not taking into account any toll roads that you might have to pay. Also as the drive is over 21 hours you might want to add an overnight stay to break up the journey. Nevertheless, this is the cheapest by a long way, but is also the longest, so the choice is it up to you. If your car is old and not reliable, we offer cross border car hire from the UK so you have a car you can rely on. For this offer please contact the reservations team directly via call or email.

Fly Then Hire A Car

The other ways to get there involve getting a flight to somewhere else then finding your way to the Madrid from there. If you are going with just 1 or 2 people you might want to check the train prices from the airport to Madrid. If there is more than 2 of you then car hire is probably the cheapest option. Below is a table of different locations you can fly to and how much car hire from there would cost to get to Madrid and back. For some of the flights instead of flying from Liverpool airport we used Manchester Airport as it was a lot cheaper. We used Skyscanner for flight prices and all the prices are accurate as of the 5th May 2019 but may change as they are on a live price rate system.

[table id=7 /]

Things to note about this table:

  • The petrol cost is assuming the car does 63mpg with the petrol price using the average price in Spain(£1.07)
  • Tolls and parking are not included.
  • Flight time includes stop overs for connecting flights.
  • Prices are based on the smallest and cheapest car.

2015 Events: The Ashes

The Ashes

The Ashes is an historic cricket contest that takes place between England and Australia with the opening match of this years series starting in Cardiff on July 8th 2015.

The Ashes is one of the biggest events on the sporting calendar and it attracts thousands of people from around the world. This year promises to be as big as ever and we are certainly looking forward to it, but for those that don’t know..

What are the Ashes?

The Ashes is the name given to any Test cricket series involving England and Australia. The two nations meet roughly every two years, with the winners claiming one of the most famous (and smallest) trophies in sport, the Ashes urn.

The matches are held alternately in England and Australia. They consist of a series of five Test matches, each lasting up to five days.

Jul 08th Wed – Jul 12th Sun 1st Test Sophia Gardens, Cardiff
Jul 16th Thu – Jul 20th Mon 2nd Test Lord’s, London
Jul 29th Wed – Aug 02nd Sun 3rd Test Edgbaston, Birmingham
Aug 06th Thu – Aug 10th Mon 4th Test Trent Bridge, Nottingham

Aug 20th Thu – Aug 24th Mon 5th Test Kennington Oval, London

Why are they called The Ashes?

The first Test match between England and Australia was played in 1877.

But the Ashes legend started later, after the ninth Test, played in London five years later when the Aussies won the only five-day match of that summer.

The term ‘Ashes’ first emerged in 1882 when England were beaten at home for the first time by Australia at The Oval

A day later, the Sporting Times carried a mock obituary of English cricket which concluded that: “The body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia”. The concept caught the imagaination of the sporting public.

A few weeks later, an English team, captained by the Hon Ivo Bligh set off to tour Australia, with Bligh vowing to return with “the ashes”; his Australian counterpart, WL Murdoch, similarly vowed to defend them.

Australia won the first Test by nine wickets, but with England winning the next two it became generally accepted that they brought back the Ashes.

England have had a lot of success in recent history but with the way things are shaping up this year so far I think there will be some surprises by the time July rolls around..

See you all in the stands, BARMY ARMY!

Festival Season Is Here

It´s that time of year when the days get longer and the weather gets better (fingers crossed!). Feeling the sun on your face gives you those butterflies in your tummy and that warm feeling that anything is possible and good times are just around the corner.

For live music lovers, summer also means Festival Season. Festivals are fun whatever the weather but if the sun is shining it is the best and purest way to enjoy live music.

Renting a car to go to a music festival can be the easiest and in some cases the only way to get to the venue. A lot of people don’t realise that cars can not only be rented from airports, they can be rented from local offices and even be delivered to your house. At Indigo we can help young drivers to rent a car, and we accept most debit cards so a credit card is not always necessary. So please contact our sales team and see what we can offer you to make your Festival experience the best possible.

Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014

The Glasgow Commonwealth Games are fast approaching set to take place on the 23rd July – 3 August, with limited tickets remaining for the event the same can be said for car hire. People have learnt their lesson from the summer Olympics and quickly snapped up a ticket for the Commonwealth as soon as they can, this reflects the car hire industry also. Hired car availability is running low, so make sure that you get your car booked fast.

There are 14 venues so getting between them it is essential to have a vehicle, the amount of venues however also works in our favour. We work with car hire companies in all of the different locations so our availability is potentially a lot higher (although you may have to travel!) It’ll be worth it. Some of the locations these venues are include…
[one_half]
Carnoustie
Cathkin Braes
Glasgow
Edinburgh
[/one_half]

[one_half_last]
Kelvingrove
Strathclyde
Scotstoun
[/one_half_last]

Some other venues that people may search for car hire include the large stadiums, as it can often get confusing as to what rental companies are located closest to them including…
[one_half]
Celtic Park
Hampden Park
Ibrox Stadium
[/one_half]
[one_half_last]
Emirates Arena
Athletes Village
SECC Precinct
[/one_half_last]

Rest assured however we can provide car hire at all of these locations.

There are also several more, likely chances are that if you are coming from abroad you are arriving into either Edinburgh Airport or Glasgow Airport in which we can also supply you with a hired vehicle.

Although it is a bit too early to suggest what the weather may be on the dates, well, its Scotland so it may be worth going for a larger vehicle such as an SUV or 4×4 to tackle some of the mountainous terrain. You also don’t want to miss any of your events so getting satellite navigation in car may be worthwhile however we would suggest if possible to buy your own as it would work cheaper.

Please keep in mind it is a battle against time, availability even for us is running low for the commonwealth games so make sure that you book as soon as you can or else you may be left without adequate transportation.

The quickest way to book is to contact our experienced and knowledgeable reservation agents who will help you every way possible to get a vehicle. You can contact them by calling +44 (0)113 880 0748 or emailing sales@thealternativeagency.co.uk, they will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
