Flight Strike Planned For Five Days

Europe could dip into chaos in the next coming days, well maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration but with 14,000 flights potentially being delayed across the continent it’s not far from the truth, there are currently around 26,000 daily flights across Europe each day which surely shows you the scale of this strike and the effect it could have. Europe’s air traffic controllers are set for strike action on the 29th January where it’s said that 28 countries could be affected with air traffic controllers within Germany striking. If the planned strike action goes ahead Europe’s air traffic could come to a complete stand still, scary. (more…)

Diesel Car Hire France

When hiring a car you will often find that when you want to hire a diesel it can be quite problematic. The reason for this is, given the choice everyone wants a diesel as they are often slightly cheaper to run, this presents an issue as there isn’t enough diesels for demand so car hire companies either don’t allow you to specify fuel type which is often the case or they charge you extra for the option of diesel. Car Hire Europe Without Credit Card

Hiring a car anywhere in the world without a credit card can sometimes seem like a mammoth task. Majority of all car hire companies only accepted credit cards as it’s the easiest form of payment, the same goes for the large majority of the companies in Europe. There are several people out there that either have bad credit, don’t have a credit card or simply just don’t want to use one because of how easy it is to get into debt and this is completely understandable so we decided that we had to do something about here at Indigo Car Hire. Hire a Car With a Conviction In France

Many people who drive vehicles will often find themselves left stuck and unable to collect a hire car because you may have been caught out and got a conviction on your licence whether it be an IN10, DR10 or CD10.

Well I can confirm that with every rental company if you have a major endorsement for Drink Driving or No Insurance then you will more often than not be able to hire the car due to the supplier’s restrictions and rules that are in place, especially if the conviction date was within the last 5 years. This is because you are seen as an insurance risk so the insurers of the rental companies don’t want to hire out cars to you. (more…)

Dangers Of Driving A Car Abroad

In the next three months it’s predicted that 33% increase of Brits plan on taking their car abroad according to new research. This can pose certain dangers to drivers with many unintentionally breaking the rules of the road in the country they are driving within. In different countries there is often different road signs and legal requirements in terms of what motorists should have on their car or carry in their car which are a must by law.

Don’t believe me? In France, Croatia, Italy and Norway it is compulsory for drivers to carry a warning triangle which research has revealed that 39% of people planning to drive there do not know or intend to carry one. Some other required items that drivers must carry include documentation, proof of ownership, a GB sticker on the car and several other requirements that people just simple don’t know about. The research has highlighted a particularly scary factor where many Brits could get caught off guard by laws they don’t know.

Beware before you travel, carry out maintenance on your car check the simple things like tyre pressure and treads as well as oil and water, you definitely don’t want to breakdown abroad. Another thing is to do your research before you leave as you can receive points and fines for some of these offences which at the least will be a major inconvenience, it’s advised that you carry a reflective jacket, first aid kit and extra safety items as they are often required in several European countries. Finally tell your insurer before you set off to make sure you are covered as you may be shocked to find that you often won’t be and will be completely liable of an accident on foreign soil.

Top 10 Worlds Most Expensive Cities

The cost of living is on a constant rise with almost everything being hiked up in price but what are the top 10 most expensive cities in the world? The cities you should possibly avoid on your holiday if you want to save a bit of cash. Each of these cities had a survey on a few basic items which where totalled up and put into a top 10, the money spent was used on a hotel, return taxi trip, dinner for two and cocktails for two. You may be shocked to find out some of the results.

10. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Not one of the ones I would of though would be an expensive however the total came to a price of £285.63 an expensive price for a Dominican Republic holiday maybe it’s a good idea to avoid this location.

9. Cancun, Mexico
Another shocker which is slightly more expensive than Punta Cana coming in at £289.24 with the dinner for two being particularly expensive at £52.64.

8. Copenhagen, Denmark
One that I assumed would be up there as Denmark can be a rather expensive place to live and holiday, the total only came a few pennies over Cancun however at £290.91 however in comparison the Hotel was quite cheap but the dinner and cocktails was the real hefty part of the bill.

7. London, England
Again I could see that coming, I actually thought it would be higher up the scale of the most expensive. The total came to £295.97 with everything all round being quite expensive and nothing in particular standing out.

6. Sydney, Australia
The total came just above London with the price totalling £301.81. The hotel, dinner for two, cocktails for two all where relatively nicely priced until the dinner came into it, the dinner cost a total of £109.74 for two!

5. Paris, France
The total cost was £335.37 with the hotel and the cost of the two cocktails being the two figures that really stood out, especially the cocktails at £43.34 for two that’s £21.67 per cocktail, that’s ridiculous.

4. New York, USA
Predictable as its one of the biggest cities in the world popular for just about everything going, for a city that never sleeps there’s no surprise why, the hotel costs loads! The total came to a modest £338.27 which isn’t too bad for NYC in my opinion.

3. Stockholm, Sweden
The hotel was cheap, the return taxi trip was cheap the cocktails weren’t too bad it was looking good until dinner was served that is, the dinner made up almost half the price of the whole trip costing £137.53 with the total trip coming to £342.25, probably should of stuck with a takeaway.

2. Zurich, Switzerland
All round expensive place to be with everything raking up quite the bill, not too much more than Stockholm however with the total coming to £343.24

1. Oslo, Norway
Again, it’s the dinner that seems to have put a dull mood on the holiday bill and left a massive whole in the pocket, the dinner for two cost a total £181.67 with the total of the holiday coming to £381.28 surprising for Oslo.

UK To France Car Hire

Car Hire suppliers don’t like allowing customers to go abroad with a car that they hire within the UK. This conflicts with what a lot of people want, which is to hire a car in the UK from a trust worthy supplier that are familiar with and take it abroad. One of the most popular requests we get is UK to France Car Hire. London to Inverness is a longer route than London to France and you would easily be allowed to hire a car to travel from London to Inverness but can sometimes struggle if you are going from London to France.

European Austerity Measures Causes 24 Hour Strike

A 24 hour strike has been called in Spain, Greece, Portugal and Italy due to austerity measures that have seen wages, pensions, benefits and social services cut. This is all due to governments such as Spain and Greece having large debts with banks and other countries. Cuts have been agreed by governments in exchange for money to bail out countries.

Strikes are also planned in countries such as Belgium, Germany and France; however the debts in these countries are far less than in Spain, where unemployment is currently at 25%, the highest rate in the EU, with Greece coming in close second.

There have been outbreaks of violence with 32 people arrested and 15 others treated for minor injuries. The strike has delayed many flights and trains, with the transport in Lisbon reported as being at a virtual standstill. The foreign & Commonwealth office is advising all travellers to check for any delays or cancellations before making their way to the airport, and to allow extra time for travel.

If you have a car hire booked for today or tomorrow and your delayed due to these strikes then speak with our team today and we will ensure that we can amend your car rental reservation.
