Motorist DVLA has good news for you: the validity period for the code required to share your driving licence info was extended.

Since 8th of June when the driving licence paper counterpart was abolished, whoever wants to hire a car has to share their licence info with third party companies.

The motorists have to enter the DVLA website and “share” their licence info by obtaining a check code valid for 72 hours.

Even if this was not supposed to be a complicated procedure it created a lot of frustration among the motorists.

Due to its short validity period, many motorists had to generate new codes and without being able to access the internet or call DVLA, this was a mission impossible.

After many complaints from both the drivers and the car rental companies, the government responded by extending the validity period of the share code from 3 to 21 days.

So from 10th of July 2015, the check code which the motorist are generating in order to share their licence info with third party companies is available for 3 weeks.

As a reminder, the share code is required only if you have a British Driving licence and want to hire a car in the UK.
