Dangers Of Driving A Car Abroad

In the next three months it’s predicted that 33% increase of Brits plan on taking their car abroad according to new research. This can pose certain dangers to drivers with many unintentionally breaking the rules of the road in the country they are driving within. In different countries there is often different road signs and legal requirements in terms of what motorists should have on their car or carry in their car which are a must by law.

Don’t believe me? In France, Croatia, Italy and Norway it is compulsory for drivers to carry a warning triangle which research has revealed that 39% of people planning to drive there do not know or intend to carry one. Some other required items that drivers must carry include documentation, proof of ownership, a GB sticker on the car and several other requirements that people just simple don’t know about. The research has highlighted a particularly scary factor where many Brits could get caught off guard by laws they don’t know.

Beware before you travel, carry out maintenance on your car check the simple things like tyre pressure and treads as well as oil and water, you definitely don’t want to breakdown abroad. Another thing is to do your research before you leave as you can receive points and fines for some of these offences which at the least will be a major inconvenience, it’s advised that you carry a reflective jacket, first aid kit and extra safety items as they are often required in several European countries. Finally tell your insurer before you set off to make sure you are covered as you may be shocked to find that you often won’t be and will be completely liable of an accident on foreign soil.

Learner Drivers On Motorways?

A main motoring body with a great deal of influence, the Institute of Advanced Motorists claims that we should be allowing learner drivers to drive on the motorway, because it’s safe. They believe that as long as its supervised it would help new motorists avoid some of the most common mistakes, its true in the fact that you are never taught to use a motorway when driving so most people pass and then learn from their mistakes which could be more dangerous than teaching those before they take their test. Australia and the United States already have a system in which their new drivers of the road can learn how to drive on a motorway before taking their test and if the UK decides to make the changes it will be more in line with how it’s done over the pond. New S Class To Avoid Congestion Charge?

It’s possible that Mercedes Benz new S class that is to be introduced to the UK in 2014 could avoid congestion charges, how? Mercedes-Benz could be launching a 74g/km version of the S class meaning it would be hybrid and qualifying for a massive discount when it comes to the London congestion charges and will get the lowest rate currently available for BIK tax. The struggle with making it 74g/km is that as the threshold of the tax is 75g/km they will. need to make sure that the CO2 does not increase even marginally due to homologation. (more…)

Tyre Warning

TyreSafe, a company that advises on tyre safety as is implied in the name have issued advice to motorists in the UK in regards to tyre tread depth. They have said that due to the consistently wet summers in the UK it’s important to have the adequate tyre tread depth to be able to have good traction on the wet summer roads. The depth of the tread is essential for gripping to wet roads as the pattern is designed to help displace water from the road surface. The stopping distance in wet weather can be double than if the road was dry putting extra emphasis on reliable tyres. (more…)

Car That Calls For Help

The European Commission wants all cars by 2015 to be ready to call an emergency number by themselves if the event of a crash happens and the owner is unable to call for help. Technology these days would make this possible, people crash all the time and many car crashes are fatal, could this new suggested system save lives? In the event of an accident the eCall will automatically send a message to emergency services, the true genius comes in the fact that the system won’t respond to lower impact parking errors such as parking so it wouldn’t waste emergency services time.
