San Francisco, California

Explore the variety of Michelin-Star restaurants then after your stomach is full you can hit some of the best clubs that America has to offer. This holiday is suitable for both families and couples with the day and night offering such variety of things to do.

Orlando, Florida

You would of heard of Orlando and most likely in the same breathe as the word theme parks because well there’s tons of them. Walt Disney has designed his little empire of theme parks in Florida along with several other none Disney related ones. Not into theme parks? Oh there’s more, hot balloon rides, indoor skydiving, Parasailing or just visiting the city. Orlando is perfect for everyone it’s got so much to offer and that’s why it has made second in the list.

New York City, New York

You knew it would be, it’s always first and for valid reasons. New York is truly the city that never sleeps with something always happening, but what can you do in New York? Well… Visit the Statue of Liberty or tap into history through Ellis Island, get scared of heights on top of the Empire State Building or see the iconic Times Square, not enough yet? Well you could also go down the world famous shopping high street with shops like the original Adidas and Macy’s or visit Planet Hollywood for a bite to eat and then travel round the corner to Broadway. You just simply won’t have enough time in New York City, I lived there for a year and still never went to the top of the Empire State Building, which I very much regret.

We can always tell when its approaching summer time and universities breaking up because we get an influx of one particular type of enquiry. The title of this blog may have given the game away..

So far this week we have had a handful of enquiries about hiring a Ford Mustang Convertible in the good old US of A..

Whats the attraction of a big, heavy, fuel guzzling tank with the top cut off? There are many better, faster or more economical vehicles to choose from when hiring in America but the Mustang seems to be the vehicle of choice for most.

Young Drivers From Norway

We were recently contacted by two young drivers from Norway who were aged 22 years old and were wanting to rent a car within the USA, San Francisco to be exact. They each had held their licence for approximately four years and where wondering whether it would still be possible for them to hire.

The good news is that we can hire to these customers within the US as the young drivers age is 21 and you only need to have held your licence for a year prior to this, however you will be charged an additional young drivers fee per driver. It is also beneficial if you have a clean licence but any licence that has less than 6 penalty points with no major convictions will be accepted.

If you did however happen to have two drivers on the rental as they have requested above then they would each have to pay a significant amount on the young driver surcharge which could make the hire unaffordable, we suggest that if possible then you should just stick to the one driver and split the costs between you as this will be far more cost efficient.

We had a customer come to us recently worried about hiring a car in the USA, their main concern was that they didn’t have a credit card and if you follow these blogs you may know that this isn’t an issue for us as we can easily arrange offers in several North America locations, the client however had another major worry, would they be credit checked?

When it comes to hiring a car in America many people worry that credit checks will be carried out on them, and if they are travelling from overseas then this is simply not true. Credit checks only take place if you are a resident of the United States and are planning on hiring a car there, so you can rest assured that if you are travelling to the US you will not be credit checked.

Since you may be planning to hire in the US we felt it would be a good time to make you aware of some of the deals we can offer. When you get the car it is full of fuel in which you have to pay for the tank on top of what you have paid for the rental when you arrive, then when you return the car you must return it as close to empty as possible. Many people get caught out with this as they either fill up the engine or are rightfully too worried about returning it too close to empty, either way the rental company benefit from this. A full to full policy means that you don’t have to pay for the fuel you just simply fill the car back up when you return it.

Cross Border Travel: USA To Mexico is quite a confusing subject for car hire companies in general. Cross border travel within the US is fine but it gets complicated when you want to go to Mexico. We got a question on our live chat recently that asked if we can permit travel from Mexico to the USA, unfortunately we can’t as no car rental supplier will allow us to do this. We wanted to look further into this however to see if there was anything we can do.

Strangely, we can allow for you to pick up a hired vehicle within the USA (North America) and drive it to Mexico as long as you bring it back to the USA after your rental period. So Cross Border Travel: USA To Mexico is possible only if you’ll bring the car back to USA.
Confusingly however you can’t do this the other way around, if you pick up a car in Mexico you will not be allowed to drive it into North America.

CROSS BORDER TRAVEL: USA TO MEXICO comes with a charge

Cross Border Travel: USA To Mexico with a car hire comes with a charge. There is one supplier who will allow us to do this and they charge a daily fee of $31 on top of the price of your rental.
This also must be paid on a credit card as debit cards will not be allowed for this kind of travel. The car groups are also restricted to groups A, B, C, D, E, F and G.
