Cheltenham Races
The large spa town is a borough in Gloucester, amongst several festivals that the town hosts there is one that really attracts worldwide attention. This event is of course the Cheltenham Festival also known by its official title of National Hunt Meeting which takes part on the Cheltenham races. A horse racing event in which some of the best Irish and British horses take part, the event is particularly popular with the Irish as it usually takes part during the St. Patricks day holiday and has been going since 1860.
With it being one of the biggest horse racing events it attracts big money gambling and over the 4 day festival hundreds of millions of pounds are spent and millions of pounds are gained and lost. Another thing that the festival is also known for is its “Cheltenham Roar” which is the nick name referring to the noise generated by the crowd as the starter raises the tape for the first time, it has been named this due to the fact it’s a huge roar sound and there is nothing else like it. If you’re looking forward to the festival but are worried about car hire we can sort it out.
This year’s Cheltenham race takes part from the 12th March – 15th March. St Patricks day is on the 17th this year which just slightly falls out of the festival however I am sure that the Irish will still flock to see their favourite horses compete in one of the best races the country has to offer.
