Double Yellow Parking Allowed?
New government plans have established that drivers may soon be allowed to park on double yellow lines given that they are there for a short period of time. Its reported that many are calling for a short 15 minute period that they are allowed to park on the double yellows, this could provide more parking spaces for short errands however surely there is a reason for double yellows being there in the start and it could become common that every 15 minutes there is a new row of cars parked upon them.
The reason behind this is that it’s a big to increase the amount of trade on the high street with allowing more people to park for the short term in usually busy city centres where you can never get a parking spot. As well as double yellows being the vocal point of discussion it was also suggested that people who park dangerously and flout parking laws could face a much larger fine which has seen major support mostly from Lib Dems. It also comes at a time when many people are calling for an increase in the fines outside of London to equal the fines within the capital, surely everything contradicts each other.
The reason that people are calling to increase the fine is for it to act as more of a deterrent as the current fine doesn’t scare people out of doing it again, however many believe it’s just a way of raising revenue for councils. A lot of parking tickets come from parking on double yellows so it could be a very hard choice to make for councils, if it’s true the fact they see parking tickets as a way of creating revenue is detested by many. We’ll have to wait and see what happens, stricter fines or the ability to park on double yellows, what would you rather see?
