Can you rent a car without a credit card?
Simply put, yes, you can. Majority of companies simply won’t allow you to rent without a credit card that is in your name & on top of that almost all don’t allow for cash, prepaid cards or check payments. The only other option you have available, that some companies are able to allow is car hire with a debit card, which has a few additional caveats.
How to rent a car without a credit card
As previously mentioned it is possible to hire a car without a credit card if you have a debit card. Visa UK Debit cards will be accepted with certain suppliers as long as it meets the requirements:
- A valid debit card in your name (Visa or MasterCard for example although many different cards are accepted.)
- Full valid UK driving license
- Proof of address like a utility bill
- The debit card needs to have enough balance to cover the rental cost & deposit

When hiring a car with a debit card there are unfortunately some restrictions. Although our suppliers can accept most types of debit cards, not all types of card are accepted. Also the name on the card used to pay must match the name on the licence of the main driver of the hire car.
