Contact Us About Driving Convictions

IN10 PointsIf you have any points, convictions or endorsements on your driving licence you may often find that this stops you from renting a vehicle. When you are looking to hire a car with points on your licence you may be prevented from getting a vehicle as if you have a major endorsement, conviction or a particular number of points on your licence.

Here you can find more info on codes and convictions

We are here to help. We have managed to arrange a deal with a few select suppliers which allows car hire with DR10, IN10 or other driving convictions, it does however depend on your particular circumstances. As every case is unique as for example the requirements for renting a car in the UK may be different to that of Spain, we always advise that you speak to our rental team. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK ONLINE.

Hiring A Car With 3 Points On Your Licence

When it comes to driving convictions and offences there are so many different ones which all have different meanings. Less serious offences like Speeding (SP), Mobile Phone Offence (CU), Traffic Light Violation (TS), Driving other than in accordance with your licence (LC) , Miscellaneous Offences (MS) or Pedestrian Crossing Offences (PC), Providing that you only have 3 points on your licence and you have not been banned then you can hire a car with 3 points on your licence.

Generally you get 3 points and a £60 fine for these offences. Normally, this is not a problem for us and you should be able to hire a car.

Hiring A Car With 6 Points On Your Licence

If you have 6 points on your licence for a couple of less serious convictions like two speeding offences or a traffic light offence and a mobile phone offence, which all carry 3 point penalties in most cases, you may still be able to rent a vehicle but please speak to our reservations team to be certain as some suppliers may not allow you to hire so we need to recommend a specific one.

If you have in excess of 6 points on your licence then many rental companies will not be able to rent a car for you. The large majority of rental companies will all prevent anyone with more than 6 points on their licence from hiring a car. That being said we may still be able to rent a vehicle to you from selected locations even if you have 9 points on your licence, but you will need to speak to our team directly.

Car Hire With DR10 (Drink Driving)

A DR10 means driving or attempting to drive with a blood alcohol level above the allowable limit. Obviously this is a serious offence and should not be condoned by anyone, but people do make mistakes and it seems the car hire industry takes these offenses even more seriously than the government.

If you are caught over the limit you could face a hefty fine and a potential driving ban from 90 days to 3 years in some extreme cases, the length of some bans can be reduced by attending a road safety and alcohol course. After your ban car hire with DR10 can be tricky as most car hire companies will not hire you a car for 5 years from the date the ban was lifted and the licence was returned.

This means if you get a 1 year ban, you may not be able to hire a car for 6 years.

We have now found a national supplier in the UK who will allow car hire with drink driving conviction. Basically they will hire to someone with a DR10 on their licence providing the date of conviction was at least 5 years ago, so this means that with this supplier you could potentially hire a car a full 3 years before any other supplier will allow it.

Car Hire With IN10 Points (No Insurance)

If you have been caught driving without valid insurance you will receive an IN10 endorsement on your licence, which can sometimes carry up to 8 penalty points.

The main condition in order to Hire a Car with a IN10 Conviction is to have no more than 6 penalty points on your driving licence.

It is good to call us and to discuss with our reservation agents before doing any other travelling arrangements. The second condition which drivers with IN10 must met is that they shouldn’t have had their driving licence revoked or received a ban.. If you lost your licence you won’t be able to hire a car for five years from the date you get your licence back.

These rules are only part of the requirement for renting a car in the UK, with a UK licence. If you are arriving from another country, then we may be able to provide you with a rental car no matter what endorsements are on your licence. This also goes for UK licence holders wanting to hire a car abroad.

Hiring A Car After Failure To Give Information (MS90)

MS90 Conviction stands for “Failure to give information as to identity of driver etc” and will stay on your driving record for 4 years from the date of the offence. This conviction comes also with 6 penalty points on your driving licence.

In order to hire a car while you have an MS90, you must not have any previous bans or more than 6 penalty points on your driving record.
At the moment we managed to arrange this deal only in few locations, but we are committed to expand it at as many other locations in the UK as we can.
