Football Fans Crazy For Number Plates

Through the years football fans have been renowned for doing some crazy things, but buying number plates for extortionate prices all because it represents their team or a player? Believe it or not it happens a lot with cases like the number plates HU11 CTY which sold for a total of £46,770! And others such as BO11 TON which sold for £5,500.

How much would you pay to represent your team on your car? One West Ham fan went the length and likely deserves a reward for his loyalty to the hammers, the plate WE57 HAM sold to a fan for a staggering, wait for it…. £57,000! If that doesn’t show true loyalty to the club I don’t know what does, or on the other hand it could be called stupidity.

Jody Davies, DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Events Manager, said: “Football supporters are truly passionate about their clubs and many have gone to great lengths in the past to show their devotion by buying a personalised registration, hopefully, thanks to our WO11 VES registration, Wolves could well be elevated into our own Premier League of registrations we’ve sold!”.

There’s an auction coming up of 1,500 personalised registrations going up for sale on the July 25th at the Heritage Motor Museum in Gaydon, Warwickshire one of the registrations is expecting to fetch quite the price. You guessed it, its related to a football team, WO11 VES is expected to fetch a handsome few thousand pounds with many Wolverhampton Wonders fans coveting the plate as the plate is the closest plate there is to the clubs nickname Wolves, maybe just a surprise bidder that really likes wolves (the animal) will make an appearance, buy the plate and make several football fans unhappy.
