Heathrow Closes Runway As Plane Arrives On Fire

A plane was seen by passers by flying towards the direction of Heathrow with a murky black trail behind the planes right hand side engine, this was filmed by an eyewitness said to be a local, it was also very apparent to the passengers who could visibly see the issue on board. The plane which was a British airways plane was originally heading for Oslo but detected technical difficulties during the flight and decided it would be best to turn back; it approached Heathrow soon after just taking off after many had seen what appeared to be the engine on fire.

These rumours and eyewitness videos where later confirmed, there was quick action at Heathrow and the plane was immediately evacuated. The London ambulance service stated that three people were treated for minor injuries; the fire crew also came quickly and later announce that the fire had been put out safely. It could have been a far more serious issue if the plane had continued towards Oslo not realising the issue, the quick actions of the crew potentially saved the lives of many and the quick action of the airport staff and services also saw to a smooth resolution to a scary incident.

Both the airports runways where shut down as a precaution but within a few hours resumed full service. The experience was quite freighting for many on and off the plane as it’s a rare occurrence for an engine to catch light, we can see one of the passengers had taken a photo of right wing engine on the plane where a panel appears to be either broken or missing. The incident is set to be investigated just like any by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch who should hopefully resolve the issue so nothing like this happens again.
