Millions Face Fines For Outdated Licences
Up to two million motorists could be fined for having an expired licence photo card. Some may be shocked to learn that you actually need to update your licence once every ten years, people often assume that if you don’t need to renew your paper licence you don’t need to renew your card half of the licence, this presumption is wrong. It also doesn’t help that on the front of the licence the actual dates that you need to see for the licence to be renewed by are extremely small and people just over look them.
The average fine issued when the police catch someone with an out of date licence is £50 totalling a massive £41 million pounds in fines issued for this offence. Don’t fall for the trap, just because the paper part of your licence doesn’t expire until you turn seventy if you look very closely at your picture side of the card then you will find that it expires every 10 years due to the need to update the picture of yourself for identification.
To renew your licence there is a couple of things you must have. Firstly you must have a UK passport issued within the last five years, secondly you must be a resident of Great Britain and also not be disqualified from driving. Some other things to note is that you need your current licence numbers, NI number, recent address and a method of paying them £20 this will usually take around three weeks for your licence to arrive through the door so give yourself adequate time and don’t leave it to the last minute or else you might get caught as there is an apparent crackdown on the expiring of photo licences much like the similar rule that came into place for car hire with the photo part of your licence on the 1st April.
