Nottingham Train Station Completes Expansion
Five weeks on, around the clock effort, six miles of next track, a new platform and 143 new signals later Nottingham train station has seen a huge expansion which took 2,000 people to complete. A fully function train service has now resumed at Nottingham station after £100 million investment by Network rail. The building and track was well in need of its revamp as its 1960s equipment had seen better days and needed replacing with new, more efficient and flexible technology. Not only will this improve the design and overall look as well as making it easier for working it will also improve the reliability of trains and further improve the station.
The train service started again on 05:31 Monday morning which marked the start of the first full working day in the new train station which displays new systems and infrastructure. Network rail director has thanks the patience of people in the local area over the time of the maintenance and said it is great to see trains running again. Perhaps the most needed new feature was the signalling system which is said to now improve people’s journeys massively. That’s not it however, despite network rail already spending £100 million they plan to burst the bank and spend more with a figure near £150 million being talked about for further refurbishment of the station and the rail lines in and around the city who knows how long this one will take.
The way the new track and signalling has been laid out allows for a much greater flexibility at the station which eliminates what used to happen where trains would be standing and waiting just outside the platform waiting for somewhere in the station to become available, this will hopefully massively improve both the income of the station and the amount of passengers they can do yearly as well as getting rid of all delays.
Due to this the number of trains using Nottingham station is predicted to grow as there is more availability if Network rail are running a more reliable service meaning the station can further increase its revenue for future investments. The people of Nottingham are yet to see what will happen with the next £150 million investment but as for this recent expansion being a success it seems likely the money will be put into useful causes.
