Police Crackdown On Car Hire Licence Acceptance Terms

On the 1st April Police crackdown on car hire licence acceptance terms and conditions in the means of which licence parts they accept. This is no laughing matter (pardon the April fools pun) but in all seriousness the car hire companies have been told to stay to strict guidelines as to what licences they can and can’t accept in terms of when people come to hire a car with their licence, so what are these changes you might ask and how might it affect me?

The changes made are to do with the updating of licences, often people don’t renew their picture licence as they have a paper licence and there is no real reason to do so. You may or may not know that you have to renew your picture licence every 10 years which is for good reason as its used as a form of identification the picture should always be up to date, what the crackdown has done is when you now come to hire a car you must have an in date picture licence to display before hiring a car. This crackdown has hit most of the major “big boys” of the car hire world.

What does this mean?
The overall meaning of it is in order to hire a car you must have your picture licence part and it must be recently updated. This is important to raise awareness to everyone but mostly to our expats living in other countries as they often don’t see the point of renewing their UK licence if they are living abroad however they will need to if they want to come back and hire a car on their visit.

The good news out of this is we can still do car hire if you don’t have an in date picture licence through some of our suppliers however we still strongly advise updating it as it limits your options massively if you don’t and you may not get the best competitive price.
