Very Small Car Very Big Celebration
There has been some wacky obsessions over the years with a variety of different things one of which has been people’s obsession to get into the Guinness World Records. The Guinness book of world records is basically as it describes, an official book full of world records. There’s some pretty weird stuff in this book, anything you can think of there’s a high chance that there’s already a record set for it from being the oldest Gymnast at the age of 86 to having the largest 340 piece drum set.
People drive to be the best at something in the world and for one man in Phoenix this was no exception. Austin Coulson, 29 set out to have a record to his name and he’s finally achieved this goal, Mr Coulson said ‘I’ve always wanted to have a Guinness World Records (title) for something and automotive was always my favorite. So I went home and looked up this current world record and thought, ‘I could do that” so what record did he achieve?
Austin Coulson has his name down in the Guiness Book of World Records for having the smallest road legal car in the world which is 2 feet 1 inch high and 2 feet 1.75 inches wide with 4 feet 1.75 inches in length, how did he get such a small car road legal? Coulson paid careful attention to detail to enable it to pass all the guidelines to be road legal, it includes small windshields, fully functional wipers, DOT approved signal lights, a seatbelt and a working horn although its classified as a low speed vehicle and only allowed to go to 25mph on public highways.
The very small car ironically possesses the Texas number plate of IM BIG, and although limited at 25 mph Austin has reached a top speed of 33mph when at full throttle although he admits that it’s scary as there is no suspension due to the size he also claims that when you are going at 33mph it feel like 100! Apparently although unconfirmed this car is not road legal in Arizona where Austin built it, he has a Texas number plate as he found a few loop holes in the road restrictions in order to make it legal however he was unable to in Arizona.
Coulson has proved his doubters wrong, he said many people knew that he could build it but thought that he wouldn’t be able to make it road legal. The paint of the car is also theme after the P51 Mustang Military Aircraft and on the side of the paint is the record number his granddad served under in WWII, the car does regular veteran military parades so if you want to see this little record break then you have your chance.
