Snow Chains Are Mandatory In Italy From November

We are fast approaching the winter season and in some European countries driving with winter equipment will become mandatory.
Our partners in Italy just informed us that starting with 15th of November 2015 until the 30th of April 2016, the drivers must have their cars equipped with snow chains.

Even if driving with snow chains is mandatory, in Italy the car rental companies don’t equip the cars with winter accessories by default.
While the winter tyres are not mandatory, the snow chains are and anyone who will hire a car must pay an extra fee for them.

Our partners in Italy usually will charge up to 5 euros per day (aprox. £3.5) but will cap at 8 days at 40 euros (aprox. £29).
However, if the customers don’t accept to buy the snow chains, they can sign a disclaimer letter declaring his choice to refuse this mandatory service and his full and complete responsibility.

These are some of the locations in Italy where the snow chains are mandatory

  • Bergamo
  • Bologna
  • Pisa
  • Firenze
  • Milano
  • Conegliano
  • Torino
  • Treviso
  • Trieste
  • Venezia
  • Verona
